Upgrade day has its own little ritual. The new phone comes out of the box, your current one gets a last look, and somewhere between transferring photos and rearranging the home screen, you glance at the case you’ve been using all year and wonder if it’s coming along.
It’s a fair question, and the answer is mostly reassuring. Here’s how the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro compare, what’s worth checking before you swap your case across, and which accessories can make the move with you.
The Short Answer, Without the Suspense
Most likely, yes. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro share the same dimensions, so a case that fits one should sit comfortably on the other.
Fit is a little more detailed than size, though. It comes down to things a spec sheet doesn’t always show: how far the camera plateau rises, where the buttons sit, how the corners curve, whether the speaker and port openings line up, and whether MagSafe snaps on centred. That’s exactly what the five-minute check below puts to the test.

Apple’s own guidance is more cautious, and it doesn’t list 17 Pro cases as compatible with the 18 Pro, because the camera plateau is slightly thicker this year.
What Stayed the Same, and What Didn’t
Almost everything. Both the iPhone 17 Pro and 18 Pro measure 150.0 × 71.9 × 8.75 mm, and the two Pro Max models measure 163.4 × 78 × 8.75 mm. The Action button, volume buttons, side button, Camera Control and USB-C port are all where you left them.
The one difference is at the back. The camera plateau is 0.1 mm thicker on the iPhone 18 Pro, about the thickness of a sheet of paper. For most cases that’s room to spare, but a case that hugs the camera closely is worth a quick look, which is where the next section comes in.
The Five-Minute Fit Check

Before you swap your case across, try these five things:
- Seating: the phone sits flush, with no rocking and no gaps at the corners.
- Buttons: the action, volume and side buttons click cleanly.
- Camera Control: taps, presses and swipes register the way they should.
- Camera: the lenses and flash stay clear, with the case’s camera edge sitting comfortably around them.
- MagSafe: a wallet or charger snaps on centred and holds when you lift the phone.
Give the case a quick wipe inside first, so the finish underneath stays looking its best. If all five pass, you’re set. If one doesn’t, that case is simply better suited to your previous phone, and a case made for the iPhone 18 Pro is there when you want one.
Cases Made for Both

Stack cases for the iPhone 18 Pro are made to fit the iPhone 17 Pro too, so one case works across both phones.
That covers Stack Signature, Stack Clear, Stack Leatherette and Stack Base. It’s handy if you’re upgrading yourself, or passing your current phone to someone at home.
Accessories That Make the Move Too
What happens to the wallet, grip and stand you’ve grown used to? They move across as easily as your case does, since the iPhone 18 Pro supports MagSafe and the wallet, grip or stand you already use snaps on as it always has.
That includes the Analog Slim RFID MagSafe Card Wallet, and Stack accessories like the Stack Phone Wallet Stand and the Stack Phone Grip & Stand, which are made for MagSafe-enabled iPhones.
